I quite like the idea of trying to construct a device for producing live foods for my reef and the seahorse tank which is under constrction. I read On "Ultimate Relief" of a Geosapper acrylic thing which looks lovely but expensive. I wondered if it was possible to start with some sort of green water and drip it into plankton and then onto small animals to feed my Anthias, seahorses etc. I'm thinking of having it dripping it in over 8 hours.
Wondered if anyone local has had any success. Would love to have a look and try it for myself.

I've toyed with the idea of growing brine shrimp, and feeding them to the tank when they are still very small!
I've never got any further than that thou!

what about having a refugium above the tank. cram it with algae, feed it will and mabye get some pod culture kits and as its above you wont loose any life when it overflows back into the tank below. you would only need a small pump to supply it

I would like to give it a try when things are settled down. I remember a few years ago being able to go behind the scenes at Plymouth Aquaruim. They had jars of stuff lined up for their seahorse breeding programme. I wonder if its one of those..all very good in theory but its easier cheaper and alot less time consuming to buy the processed stuff

I would go with Ben an over head tank. Like a sump but above the tank. You can run a critic zone and a refugium. This will give you a zone just for pods and you will watch your populations grow and over flow into your display. This will give you live food and you can use algae to filter your aquarium. Great idea for sea horses. This will be the natural diet for your sea horses. With brine shrimp as I'm sure your aware of is they are very low in nutritional value and many people have to feed their live brine shrimp with vitamins and other things to bring them up to the nutritional needs of sea horses. With this method it will save you the labour need to give sea horses the amounts of feeds in a day.
