So,woke up this morning, usual routine.Sat in front of the syng tank with a brew and :shock7: a seahorse fry.I gues the missed egg transfer wasn't a total miss  Scooped it up,no more fry and went to work.Came home and he popped out two more.Anyway these fry are huge.I have no brine shrimp nauplii and my rearing tank/kriesel is not ready.I have put them in a small tank with an airline and will do my best.Hope the brine shrimp hatch before they starve.Anyway check out the picks, these are big fry and hitch from birth ! Cheers

They are so cute :shock7:

I love the hitching post - I made one just like it the other day (aquascape and strimmer cord  )

I set some BS eggs off last night and they are just about hatched now. I've been told that you can even hatch them in a tot glass with no airline, as long as it's lit and warm. Useful when you don't want thousands. I've set some up tonight like that so will let you know what happens,

Good luck with the little uns ;)

I've ended up with ten strong fry.The brine shrimp is hatching and they are feeding and crapping.
Linda,i am hatching my brine in small size coke/water bottles with an air line in each.I have them stood in a tray that has a heater, small pump and fresh water at 27 deg c.They are hatching in about 18 to 20 hours if that helps.I will up the temp and record the hatching time again.
Cheers

Cool ;)

They always say to choose a few of the strongest and discard the rest, so that sounds good :shock7:

A guy up here who runs a BS 'farm' supplying lfs's told me not to bother with air or heat. He suggested for the small quantities I will need at first, use something small like tot glasses and put them near a light source. I've done this and have a row of glasses standing on a brace bar of my reef tank sump  a few inches from the light. There is enough heat from the light to keep them warm.
I set them off at 3 hr intervals (for 3 hourly feeds) and they are hatching in 16hrs. It's working well, they are out of the way and I can have lots more batches on the go :)

Not a bit of it.

My pair, the male had given birth that morning, and the female began chasing him round the tank, the hussey....... The poor sod must have been knackered....

Fantastic stuff.

I really hope you raise some to adult, that would be a superb achievement.

Cheers guy's !

The weak ones are starting to die now.Looks like i have four or five nice strong ones and a few not so strong. You can see the weak ones strike at food and just miss.Survival of the fittest.I have added a sponge filter and i'm now feeding a mix of freshly hatched brine and enriched brine. Will update pic's soon.

Well yesterday i was looking at my peppermint shrimps and noticed that one of them looked due to release larvae that night.I gave them an hour after lights out and then had a look.Well,i wasn't suprised to see the peppermint younge but i also had a cleaner shrimp release too ! I turned off all pumps/flow and put a small light in the top corner to attract them and syphoned them out. The aim of this was to offer them to my 19 day old seahorse fry.Well they love them and it's a great food source for them on top of the enriched brine. Here are some pic's from this morning, and hopefully a vid. :ohyea: You can see the cleaner and peppermint shrimp larvae in the vid
