HI! I have an Arcadia Series 3 Twin 400W unit and I think it is too bright for my 4ft tank which is only 20" deep. I was wondering whether I could replace the ballasts to 250W ones.

Does anyone know where I could get these ballasts, costs and how easy is it to replace? Are the ballasts 'standard' in their designs? I think the Series 3 use electronic ballasts, not sure though....

Thanks for your help!

For what reason do you think that they are to bright! What corals have you got in your tank! are they doing well or not.
I was under the impression that the more light the better the corals woud grow!!!

By the time you fork out for ballast and bulbs you might as well sale the 400watt unit and get a 250watt unit

The Arcadia Series 3 are magnetic ballasts and not electronic.

It would be better to sell the 400w and buy a 250w.

Sorry, should have mentioned that I'm currently running twin 150W, all the corals are growing well. I picked up a used twin 400W on friday thinking that it would be better as I'm starting to collect SPS. When I turned it on, it is just too bright and it looks like the tank is 'cooking'! If that's possible??

Anybody fancy a free upgrade??? Hehehe....

Electronics are cheaper to run.
