Come on guy's,we know there are nano owners out there so let's see some pic's ! Just because it's small doesn't mean it's any less of a tank than the big reef tanks we all read about. So what stock you got,how long you had it,equipment etc ?

Hi,
I used to be a member on here a while ago but lost all my log on info when i switched providers. I also sold all my equipment and vowed never to return as it was too costly :D . However i have done the unthinkable but on a smaller scale.

The tank believe it or not is only 3 weeks old and look at it. I have absolute perfect water conditions and all is thriving. In the past i had big snags and put it down to the water but this just beggers belief.

Its prohably the fact that for the 12 gallon capacity i have a little over 12kg of live rock which is double the recommended ratio if you want to use it as the major filtration. My sump on my old tank held more water.

I am dosing with rowaphos, Iodine, Strontium and Mol, and calcium.

Readings are
PH 7.9
Salinity 1.025
Temp 25.8
Nitrate 7ppm
Nitrite Nil
Ammonia Nil
Calcium 450
Phosphates Nil

Any way here are some phots to show you what nano's are about. :D

The tank from above showing filtration in the rear. Bottom chamber UV sterilizer and rowaphos, next one up protein skimmer, next heater, and at the top the return chamber with live rock rubble. Note the tank hood folds down behind the tank for maintenance.

Initial live rock was put in on the 3rd April 2008

Good work there Rocky :)

Good to see people keeping the smaller tanks its certainly a lot more economical to run :whistling:

Bet it doesn't take you long to fill it up though :D :D Then you'll wish it was bigger :P

Cheers

Kev
Tankless at the moment :-(

Hopefully not long to wait

Absolutely Kev i reckon i could prohably squeeze in another ten maybe fifteen small frags and a couple of fish but thats it. I might then invest in a bigger tank maybe a 24" cube but ill have to wait and see its just great watching this mini reef, you see something new every day.

Here are some phots of the corals i have in there.

Green Star Polyp and Zoa's

Yellow Polyp and more Zoa's

Not fishing that much as ive sold my pole and seat-box due to my impending move to Kinloss (no course fishing up there im afraid). Made a profit on what i paid for them new new so thats how im funding this project.

However i still have a 7m sensas margin pole, all my rods, tackle, nets and my old seat box which kinda looks out of place with all the preston add-ons, so im not out of it yet.

Tried the waggler rod i got from neil at billys, worked a treat had about 11 carp to 7lb totaling 30lb off peg seven 2 foot off the island. will drop you a line at work.

talk to you soon

Starting to get a bit cluttered and no room, plus had a bit of a landslide, so took the bull by the horns and had a change around.

Wish id got a bigger tank but moving upto scotland in August so it will have to wait. Ill then Invest in something considerably bigger just as Kevang suggested earlier in the post. If anyone knows of someone selling of a Tank etc that i may be interested in then please let me know as i could at least get all the main items before i move then stock it in the new house.

Anyway heres a piccie of the new layout.

The Tank is still really healthy and the Green Alvepora or flowerpot coral (Thanks Trev) is thriving in its new location as are all the corals.

Well thats it, the new 320 litre tank is now here and in position. I have liverock and sand for this weekend, just need to fill it with R/O water and salt, stabalise the temperature and away we go on a bigger scale.

Took me less than 2 months to upgrade but i intend to run the big tank exactly the same as the nano. The only filtration being Liverock and good circulation with a hang on Refugium utilising miracle Mud, Cheato and live rock Rubble. Just as Nature intended.

So this is my last post in the section, i will now be posting in a new forum so look out and see how it comes along.

Long live the NANO :D
