I want to make a overflow for my tank. I have done a sketch. anyone see any problems?
How can I fix the chambers on the inside and outside of tank. overflow pipework is gonna be in standard food grade hosing as it needs to be flexible for my setup.
Have a old maxijet powerhead would this be ok for return pump? Or could use my fluval external filter???

Please bear in mind this is a tempoary set up as I'm getting new tank. Just wanted to try the theory.
cheers

Not right have a look at this

you don't need a valve on the outlet in fact this could cause a big problem
I have always used wast pipe for the U tube with a small hole into top with a air line non return valve fitted
to start the syphon all you need to do is suck all the air out of the the U tube and away it goes

I'm on my 3rd DIY over flow box the first was made out of glass

second was for my nano see below

also have a look HERE and HERE

hope this helps

Is your tank empty? i would have it drilled if i were you. Over flow boxes are good but the sump design will be restricted with flow rates. There even are a few brave people that drop the water level and drill a full tank.
Life is to short for frags

when you upload a pic to photobucket you will have a list of 4 links under the picture. copy and paste the bottom one, that says IMG CODE, into your post, and the picture will come up and not a link

Not right have a look at this

If you look they pretty much the same. The overflow control valve will only be used to fill the syphon then will be open all the time. The top pipe does seem a good idea though... In fact the overflow valve is the same as your weir on the right hand chamber.

Where did you get the small glass tanks?
how did you fix them inside the tank?

I think, if you just click the link in PhotoBucket it automatically copies it to your clipboard, then you just right click in the post/thread you are writing and away you go:)

There is no need for a valve it will not fill the syphon tube

the two containers are toothbrush holder from ASDA but the size would be to small for most as this was for my 28litre nano

my current set up is

4" squire line guttering in the tank (vertical) silicone to the back of the tank
1.25" wast pipe for the syphon tube
a cereal container again from ASDA wedged between tank and wall
