Quite a lot although the confusion between the names is common.

Echinopora is a favid, although an unusual one. Most commonly encountered forms are plate forming. Although from an LPS family they are small polyped, but I recon easy to keep. The E. Lamellosa I have easily outgrows montipora plates!

Echinophyllia are from rarer LPS family (Pectinadae???). Again plate forming and similar to oxipora. Much larger polyps and much fussier.

HTH,

Hmmm. Given a verbal description you could mistake the two. And there are plenty of pictures on the internet confusing the two. Best to look at a reputable source like the one Jason's posted for this one.

If you had them side by side you would definately be able to tell they were different corals though.

That probably doesn't help much does it :)

Have you got one you are trying to identify?
