this is to start the freindly comp of growing a frag ,kindly donated by chris. and to see how each frag does under different conditions.
the frags are at jasons at the moment so go and get one, free, as soon as you can so we can get this going.

its not just a chance to get a free frag, we need regular monthly updates. there are only about 10 frags so you may miss out if your not quick.

the frags are all the same size , from the same coral, so thanks to chris for the effort hes put into this.

this is my one. 2/3rds of the way down a 28" tall tank, under a 400w, 1Ok bulb.

Yep, come on guys get your frags picked up. It's not really meant as a growing competition, more an exercise to see how they fare in different tanks in different conditions. I've already seen how they do differently in Jasons sps shop tank, so it'll be interesting to see how they do in other peoples tanks.

I think there were about 10 frags available, they were all made from the same mother colony at the same time, each one taken from a 'branch' and all growth tips removed. When mounted into milliput they all had 20mm extending.

If you get one, then please provide regular ie monthly photos along with a brief description of the environment it's being kept in.

Good luck!

Chris

No, I was over at Jasons tha other day and completely forgot to pick it up when I got back home, I went down there especially to pick it up.

You know what Jason's like, you can't just pop down there for a flying visit. ;)

Got back from Jasons last night with one of the frags. Let me say its the first time ive been there and what a place, absolutely outstanding. Felt like a kid in the biggest sweetshop ever.

Any way the frag has gone in about 12 inches under the lights in good flow.

The tank parameters and set up are as follows.

75 Gallon Fluval Osaka
Hang on Refugium with Miracle Mud, Cheato and Live Rock Rubble - No skimmer
10000Lph circulation over 60Kg live rock and live sand
Twin T5 hanging pennant.
Additives (Iodine, Stront and Mol) - No calcium as its over 500.

Latest readings are

Temp = 26.4
Salinity 1.025 (34ppt)
PH 8.1
Nitrite Nil
Nitrate 2.5 ppm
Ammonia Nil
Calcium 500
Phosphate 0.01
KH 11.2

Not the high tech tanks that most of you have so it should be interesting to see how it fares against the SPS guys out there.

Here are the initial pictures.

Mine fell of it's perch and got stung by another coral just before i went on holiday.
I then had to remount it when i snapped it off it original milliput base when i dropped it, but i still think it's grown i get a pic up later!
