Hi,
Im pretty sure they cant but as title says... Can they?
Im thinking Trachy, Cynarina.. Things like that. Do they only reproduce sexually in the wild?

Im just wondering if the polyp would rpair from being damaged, or if it could be forced to seperate like bubbles and wall structure hammers and the like can be.

Cheers
Mark
P.S dont worry im not having a go at it or anything, just a wonder if anyone has ever tried really.

Thanks for the replies guys, not as daft a question as i thought then.
I have dremmelled acan's, but would be hesitant on a trachy.. how do you split the polyp ensureing each part has a portion of the mouth then?

Wayne, do you have a link to the vid? Not seen that one.

Take a look at the video link in my signature, it's all being done in the video by a pro!

Ive been watching several people dremmeling fungia plate corals (one mouth) recently, Its quite interesting TBH

Seems that ozone has been a crucial component to success as much as the tests looking good

the problem is I'm now wanting to go out and get a tile cutter
and get my Tracs and Cat out of the tank and cut them up into bits

Hey great vid, thanks for that.
I cant belive what he did to the scolly!!

Yeah Tom saw the fungia on the other forum thats what got me thinking really...
Im abit surprised with the 'fleshy' ones like scolly, trachy and Bourman also said he did the same method to an elegance!!

Dont think i would dare try, but good to see it being done. Maybe i will have ago one day.

Cheers

You can frag nems easily enough so i'd have thought the recovery of a single mouth LPS would be on a par with that.....i chopped a rose BTA into 4 last year and sold 3 bits on. The last bit i chopped in half again and sold one half - still have the other. Very simple indeed.

Its some years since Ive fragged any Single mouthed LPS but my method was very successful but somewhat slower to perform.

The first thing to do is to force the LPS to split its mouth and basically become two LPS's. To do this, you place a tight elastic band around the LPS, over the mouth. In a few days, the mouth will have split and a line will appear under the band, where the coral has seperated. This is the place to frag it.

By using this method, you rarely if ever lose the frags and they recover extremely fast. Its a great way of making Torch corals to branch out as well.
