Well Finally gone and done it ive gone and got a 4x2x2 ish Reef tank run purely by a hang on Refugium with cheato, live rock rubble and miracle Mud, and about 55Kg live rock and 20lb of live sand in the main tank. Basically the same principle as my Nano but on a greater scale.

Circulation is via two 5000lph streams connected to a wave maker, this should give me the turnover needed to use the contents as the main filter along with the fuge.

Don't intent to overstock at the moment just the contents of my Nano plus the new live rock aquired at the weekend.

Don't have the ability to post any phots at the moment but will do it tonight after work. It is my intention to run this as a diary because of the type of filtration and lack of additives, skimmers etc.

Fingers crossed it will all work out well as it has been proven by a Mr Leng Sy in the past to great effect.

Will keep you posted.
Rocky.

cool, any pics?

is there a reason why you went for hang on fuge and not a sump under the tank?

Will post the pics tonight when i get on my own computer.

The reason i went for a refugium is its smaller, cheaper and the cabinet under the tank does not allow for a reasonable sized sump. Also the missus only let me have the tank cos its asthetically pleasing to her as you will see in the photos later.

If it all goes pete tong then ill have to re-think but from my research the Leng Sy method seems to work.

Regards,
Rocky.

yeh MM systems do work but you may find you need to have a certain size sump with the right amount of mud to balance the system. very low stocking is important too.

certainly be intresting to see how the system goes over time

Well the transfer was moved forward to last night as the tank had finished cycling with the following parameters:

Ph 8.1
Temp 25.7
Salinity 1.025
Nitrite Nil
Nitrate Nil
Ammonia Nil
Calcium 450
Phosphate 0.01

The move went well, no casualties as yet, The Sailfin Tang was grazing the new live rock within twenty minutes of going in and the clean up crew including the boxing shrimp set to work on the new algae.

It was a little cloudy to start but by this morning all had cleared and everything came out as soon as the light came on. Fingers crossed it will continue in this vane. New clean up crew expected here tommorrow because of the size of the tanks and the 60Kg of live rock to keep clean.

Also found my long lost red mushroom that went missing a month ago stuck to a piece of rock at the back.

The aquascaping is not the final position due to my move in August so it will be like this for a couple of months yet then i can get the milliput out and get creating.

Anyway enough babbling. Here are some phots.

Rocky. <_<

Well the Move is now imminent and ive had one hell of a day started at 8am and finished the job gone 2pm

Heres the tank last night, last moments of peace for the inhabitants.

Posted Image

The holding area for the few inhabitants and the 60Kg of live rock.

Posted Image

All the Live rock out and in the holding tanks.

Posted Image

Have now put the twin T5 unit over the tanks for added light and heat instead of that puny T5 compact, which will be ok in my Sump for the Cheato.

The Fuge that was running the tank with the 60Kg live rock. Absolutely teaming with life.

AND FINALLY

NICE AND CLEAN AND READY FOR JASON TO DRILL AND WEIR THIS WEEK HOPEFULLY. :sign_lol:

Spent most of yesterday moding the cabinet for my sump. Used 2x2 timber to re-inforce the panels that ive removed. Just fits all the stuff i need in there and the electrics and co2 will go behind the cabinet which has an open back.

Here are some snaps so you can see what i mean.
