Just made some room in the tank and would like 2 or 3 acros on the sand bed.
So in the wild what type if any would you expect to see dotted around or is it just random acro's you see, From pictures i see its mainly cluster type's but if there are specific acros that have a habit of forming and growing on there own as it were.

In shallow water you may see acroporas on or close to the sand, but on a lot of reefs the sand bed can be rather a long way down, when diving in the Red Sea I was at 30 meters and could not see the bottom, just more and more reef wall. In the Maldives there was various acropora in the shallows, just off the sand with about 6ft of water over them.
It all boils down to light imo, that will be hardest for us to provide in a reef tank - all acroporas need fairly high amounts of light, so you can either place these corals high up if you have low light output, or if you're running high light outputs, you can locate corals up to around 30" depth of water no problems.
Water clarity also is worth considering.

As well other SPS I've seen huge staghorn thickets and bottlebrush thickets/fields on sandy bottoms in N.Sulawesi. Anything goes there, the reefs are so pristine.
