How much are you putting in the stirrer at a time Ben.
Kalk quite often does this if you have too much in solution in one go as the impurities in the RO water bind to the powder. keeping a sensible quantity in the reactor usually stems this effect. I used to put approx 1" worth in the bottom of my Ratz stirrer and top it up with a spoon or two very week, flushing it out and changing completely once every month.
the other thing it could be is impurities in the Kalk...quality varies massively from supplyer to supplyer. The best ive come across was lab grade Kalk from LabPack which has a purity rating of around 98.9% not including water content...

Si.

hi si.
i put in about half an inch in the stirrer, so i guess its not a reaction with the RO. mabye its the quality as i get it from ebay. ill try the labpak stuff and see if the problem goes.
thanks for the help

That's interesting Si, I would have never given that a thought.

I'm thinking of converting mine to have a stirrer rod like the Deltec ones. Got a 24v DC synchronous motor to make the conversion.

My ratz stirrer always left the remaining kalk a bit brown, and as they go through impellors like no tommorrow i thought the brown was the dust from where the impellor had worn away!
I'm using the same kalk in my deltec stirrer and the remaining kalk is always white!
