Hi guy's.I am upgrading to t5 lighting on my reef tank and was looking at getting a blau lumina 6 bulb t5 unit.I have now read many bad reviews on the people that supply this unit with regards to customer service etc and wont be getting this light now.I have found a few other options from the states like nova extreme pro, aquamedic ocean light, tek, aquatinics tx5 and constellation. My only problem is how will i run one of these units over here on our 240volt supply if they are geared to run for the 120volt US market? Is there a simple fix that i cant think of? Thanks in advance guy's,i hope its something simple

yeh,i saw that link before but it looks a bit naff. The ati power module however looks the dogs! But then the price is mental and no bulbs included.I feel another rip of britain rant coming on ! I have been told today that the tek light runs inteligent ballasts and that 240 volt will be fine but have emailed a company that supplies them to make sure. The choice in the us is huge ! Thanks

To get around the 220v/240v issue, the only way to do this will be to run a power converter or to change all of the ballasts within the unit, this will invalidate the warranty straight away.
The cost of ballast will make this project expensive. Do not change ballasts etc unless you know what you are doing.

Zimreef/ John over on ultimate reef is running the blau unit and is happy with it so far, might be worth picking his brains before you spend a fortune elsewhere!

USA will be 110v 60Hz where as uk is 230v 50Hz. There a a few ways to sort this depending on the exact equipment, if there is an electronic power supply it will (in general) take from 100v to 250v 50Hz or 60Hz so no problem be you must check. if it requires 110v its also no problem you just require a step down transformer which are relitively inexpensive and the Frequency (Hz) should not matter to much.
not sure of the of the exact piece of kit you require to change frequency (frequency converter) but if you require any further help I will be backj in the country on the weekend.
asta la vista amigos!! ondulae ondulae areeba areeba!!
mexico is rubbing off on me!!
