im reading articles on splitting my large mushroom
is it true you can do it with sharp stanely blade mines about 8 inches acrossed when open and stands about 8 inches high when closed / im not going to put it under the knife but can it be done this way ???

yeh you can slice it right across the middle . you just need to make sure each peice has some of the mouth.
