Hi guy's,
I have a green stag with blue tips that is browning. The tips are still bright blue but the rest of the coral is going brown.Polyps are still green. All other corals are fine and have great polyp extention and colour.
I have upped my mag a bit resently but these are my params as of this morning
mag 1400
calcium 435
nitrate? very low 0.2 on salifert
alk 8dkh.Im slowly raising this to 10 to see if this helps.
phosphate is 0 on salifert but still getting algae on glass enough to clean every couple of days.
The only change i can think of is adding gfo for phosphate removal.Im fluidising it with carbon and ive added a full small tub.Tank is 75 ish gallons.Could this be to much gfo at once?
Polyps are still visible but not out like normal.
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave
Its always hard to put your finger on a problem coral when all the rest are doing ok .
I'm not to sure as to adding gfo will course this ,it may be down to something simple like one minute the coral is in hight halide lighting and then under your T5 lighting .
I do agree as to bringing the dkh up as i know the readings you have are closer to NSW but due to the fact you have a smaller system it will be easy to let it go to low and then the troubles really will start .
Have you had any swings with the dkh as this will lose colour in sps
Sorry couldn't be of more help Dave

Hi Jas,
Thanks for the reply. No swings in dkh mate.I normaly keep it around 8 and just raising it now to see if that helps.I dont think its the lighting as t5 realy does chuck out alot of par.Atleast in a decent unit with good reflectors.Since ive had it,october frag night, its literaly been glowing and polyping realy well.Good growth, bright blue tips etc.The thing is it been a quick change over about two days. There is a grey blue stag 9 inches to the right and that looks better every day, getting realy blue now.Just very stange how all the others look great

Me and Lind's were thinking maybe its Iron if your using an iron base phosphate remover
However iron will help with the greens
Read this article as it does give some good info on how to maintain certain colours in your sps
