more advice pls gents
just removed my twin 250 watt arcadia and replaced with 400 watt lumenarc , 10k coral vue
firstly WOW :o what a diference my solid bue acro is blue again :D
but now for the advice
i used to have the actinics come on at 9am and go off at 11pm , then the halides on at 3pm and off at 10pm

question
i dont have the actinics now and ive set the lumenarcs to come on at 3pm and off at 930 pm, but the tank seems very dark for most of the day should i or do i need to invest in some actinics , or increase the time the lumenarcs are on ?

i currently have the distance from the bottom of the reflector to the water surface set at 12" is this ok

sorry for all the questions but its what you guys do best
cheers

as you have just upped the wattage i would say leave the times as they are for a while until the corals adjust to the extra light. i suspect the actinics comming on before the halides is really just so the fish dont get spooked, although actinic light is important to corals.

after a few weeks i would up the light times to 9 hours and see how that goes. and 12" is ok for distance too imo.

if its easy to add the actinics i would, mainly for the fish

I would add the actinics, they help to cast deep water spectrum and most corals love the extra lighting in the spectrum. Also the corals will look better especially the ones with blue in them.
