T5 tubes are thinner than T8 tubes. T8 tubes are the huge fat tubes. T5 thin and higher output.

yeh, the numer equals the size in fractions of an inch ,

i.e t5 is 5/8th of an inch

I remember my first marine tank had T12 lamps!

Remember to check the wattage, not just the lengths.
