:D
Yep that was pretty much the reaction when i walked in from work last night to find my tank looking very sick....a dip of the hand told me all i needed to know .....the thermometer read 92!!
After lots of freezer bags full of cold water i managed to get the temp down to normal...but i had already lost my two cleaner shrimps, several acro frags and my red sea xenia :unknow:
totally gutted ...
I don't want to see how the tank will look tonight when i walk in....this was the very reason i gave up my last tank....last time i buy a visitherm heater...EVER! Twice is not just bad luck.
Any recomendations for a replacement folks ??
One very sad reefer

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I would always back up a heater with an electronic heater controller like the ATC-300 or a Habistat one. I think a cold tank is probably better than a hot one.

Put any new heater you buy onto an ATC-300 controller or as Chris said, a Habistat will also control it.

Gutting!

I have had 5 duff Visitherm heaters that have had sticky switches, 3 of those also had electrical leaks.

After a recommendation on the forum, I now run 2 Rena smart heaters and the temp has been very consistent since. :D

P.S. There are some Rena Smart heaters on eBay from £17.85 inc delivery!

I use a Visitherm 300w and a Jewel 100w as a backup in case one does fail, these are connected to an ATC800 controller and not had any problems, the Visitherm is 3 years old and the Jewel is about 5 years old and still going strong.

There is a thread about heaters on UR
