Changing reeflux bulbs How Often?

I know alot of you guys on this forum use the Reeflux bulbs but I was wondering what the general consensus was on how often each of us replace them.

Im using 10K which I find tend to start deteriorating after about 6 months on a 7 hour period (1246 hours), so will be considering replacement soon. However I am tempted to try the 10K BLV!

quigs
youve seen them on mine in the past and whilst i agree theyre not as blue as the reeflux i wouldnt say theyre yellow, but factor in the superior manufacturing quality and the longer life, consistent colours between lamps and dont forget the cost half the price,my recommendation and probably what ill be doing is going back to the blvs, and play around with the t5 colours might try these ati tubes that davei uses.

guys
need to know how many hours theyre run in total, mine have done 11 months six hours a day so around 2000 hours in total,is it now safe to say theyve had it.as a little experiment i put two of the 10k blvs in for comparison.blvs were yellower and the blues were washed out,but the purple nana was better as was the pink hysterix, but for me the overall look of the tank is much better with the reeflux.as a side note the blvs are rated for 8000 hours according to the literature that comes with them.anyone know the hourly rating for the reeflux.

Thanks guys - So Im pretty much there then which was what i was beginning to think as the loss of brightness has become very apparent over the last few weeks.

Simon - Thanks for your experiment. I assume from your findings your going to stick with the Reeflux?

have to admit prefer the look of the tank with the reeflux,so ill have to take it on the chin and pay out the 180 odd quid for the replacements.looks like 2000-3000 hours is their lifespan but probably best replaced around the 1500 hour mark.

If you're coming to the local meet on 28th April, I'll bring my two along for you Simon.

All this talk about colour and the look but no one has talked about PAR?

The 400w 10k BLVs are one of the most powerful 400w bulbs available, they deliver far more PAR than any thing else mentioned above.

Even the BLV 14ks deliver more PAR than the 10k reeflux, see this chart from Sanjay Joshi's website:

I see where your coming from Tony but IMO colour and look are just as important in a display tank at home.

And it is 10 hrs a day for 9 months before I change Quigs.
