morning all
my blue line angel has acquired some damage to one of his eyes and was wondering what you guys would do if one of your tankmates had the same.
his eye has swollen and gone cloudy and he is constantly with a cleaner shrimp now.i have been given some antibiotics off our local vet but i am still a bit reluctant on adding this stuff to my tankwater.it does not contain copper but does contain sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate and i do not know whether to add it to my reef or not.
any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated guys.
kind regards
jason

I would set up a seperate small hospital tank, add the medicine to that then net the angel out and put him in,. that way the treatment will stay seperate from your reef.
I don't suppose it would have to be in there very long?

I suggest a change of plan... Let the wookie win

I would definitely not medicate a reef tank
If the fish is feeding then I would wait to see if the eye gets better on its own before stressing the fish any further, I find that a healthy feeding fish will recover from most things on there own just give him a bit of time as they cant recover over night, allot of people take there fish out for medication when its not necessary. Hope that helps Jason

I'm with bomber here. Whenever I've tried to medicate/treat a fish it's usually gone from bad to worse, may it was already too late or I did it wrong, don't know.
Now, I tend to leave things take their course for a few days at least. Recently one of my wrasse turned up looking like he had picked a fight with a mantis shrimp, one eye all puffed up and cloudy, scales missing and looking pretty rough all round. I thought it's time was up, but after a few days it was right as rain.

thank you all for your replies and advice
.he is eating heartily and does not seem phased by his injury at all which is a good thing so we'll just wait and see.

it is called Duphatrim IS (Trimethoprim/Sulfadiazine).It also contains Sodium Formaldehyde Sulphoxylate USNF.There is no mention of any copper at all.
