I am thinking of buying one of these big (185 litres) plastic containers from B and Q to use as a type of sump, anybody know if they will be ok to use or if they might possibly leech something into the water?

Thanks.

Should be fine, just check them for a little picture of a knife and fork, this means they are food safe.

Cheers

I wouldn't use that as a sump, not because of the leaching risk, but in my experience they can get brittle with salt water and crack easily. They are not really desgined to support the weight of water that you will put in. They are fine for mixing water, but wouldn't want it as my sump long term.

If you want a 'plastic' sump container then look for a cold water storage tank/loft tank.
