I keep these to save me from getting bored with reefkeeping

A 5 gallon freswater invert tank.

If you try really hard, you can get these buggers to reach all of 1" in length.

On the whole, its quite decent. My only complaint is the lights. They are fine with a light substrate but way to dim for a natural brown substrate, especially if you want to grow plants.

Ive built my own LED light and it works really well.

Also it doesnt include a heater.

I paid £83 for mine, off the net.

It probably looks big because I only used a small camera.

Ive got some Micro Crabs in there too and they are less than half the size of the shrimps. They are very shy but ill try and get a picture.

there is a build thread on UR about this tank, and the woman has got a larger LED light for hers which looks really bright.

Thanks for that Ben, ive had a good read. Its an excellent thread and I like the light unit. Ive taken the DIY route to lighting, using a single 20W led package. It keeps the glitter lines and is astonishlingly bright.
Ill put a picture or two up later, just in case its of any interest to you.

Its certainly bright enough for softies and LPS and just possibly some SPS as well.

The Leds are available in different power ratings. This one is 20W, running at about 17W. You can also get 10w - 50W - 100W - 200W - 300W - 500W. Can you imagine what a 500W one could do. you would need one hell of a power supply to run it, and some serious cooling.

OK, I managed to catch one out and about today. The main body is only about 5mm across.

Ahh, you see Simon, some of us prefer to work a little higher up the evolutionary chain.

This is also why I prefer to drive a car instead of a moped. :D

the crabs are too young and will present numerous difficulties through the early stages of release, as the are planktonic.

The shrimps however, are breeding. Ive already had young from the yellows and both the crystal reds (4) and crystal blacks (1) are berried up. The crystal whites are still too young.

Tony.
