LO

Now i've decided on the majestic, does any one have any info on them. as per usual, i've heard from Hardy to impossible and will die in a month! so any reassuring comments will be welcomed or will give me enough time to cancel him.

cheers

I have had my majestic for 9 years. It nips at the hairy kind of SPS, eat a trachy, finished off my cat when it wasn't looking very healthy, started nipping at my nem a couple of days ago (not touched it in the previous 15 months), although the nem was acting strangely yesterday before it starting nipping at it. I am sure it has also eaten some rics, although I have a few left it hasn't touched. It nips occasionally at the polyps on my leather.

Oh and it was a model citizen for the first few years!

So not reefsafe really, but I kind of know what it does and stock accordingly. HTH

Certainly seem keepable then!
Seems like I should expect some coral damage somewhere along the line.
I live right by the sea and I'm hoping to find a good source of sponges that I can feed to it to try and tempt it away from my corals. Time will tell.

My Majestic has arrived!!
So did the welcoming committee - My yellow tang is giving him a hard time but he seems to be standing up to him.
Slightly concerned by little lumps on his mouth, hopefully nothing. Will check when the lights are on tomorrow.
Hopefully the yellow Tang will back off tomorrow.
Cheers

Update- tangs have backed off now. The Angel is feeding off the rocks but not ffeding off of the food I put in. So far he has ignored flakes, brine and some other shrimp. All in all he seems quite happy though. His head is a bit pale, is this stress, or something more serious or is he just young. he's 3-4 inches.

Cheers

The pale face is stress, well it is on mine. Hopfully give it a few days and once things calm down it will be fine.

Any pics?

I never get pics to work as they are always to big and I'm a technophobe.

Today he is feeding on various shrimps but no flakes as yet,
I thought the tangs were leaving him alone but sadly they are not. Yellow and regal keep having a go. Only ever had problems like that with PBT's. Hope they'll stop soon. He's losing his finage. I'm not a happy bunny! How do u get two tangs out???

I hate tangs and wont put them near my systems again for the very reason you mention.Try a large mirror on the side of the tank.If you want to catch them then i would get up at 3am and get them in there sleep!

Darken the tank completely for a day, see what difference that makes. feeding is the sign you are looking for. The sooner it is on flake, the better!

fwiw when i added my angels ok different types regal and flame my tangs gave them a hard time for a good week, especially the yellow tang.

To combat stress and eating use two separate nori clips as squabbles can occur over food, Id say give it time even two weeks, Its not pretty to watch but eventually they should get along

Re-read again yup the yellow tang is a sob, Give it time mate

Thanks Tom, I do think it is just the picture, not the greatest and the colours are much brighter, only ever saw the occasional fluke on my Achilles and the cleaner shrimps I believe dealt with them. I will try and get a better picture and put it up in your section save hijacking this thread. Not sure what signs to look for with the vit deficiency so maybe that would be a help. After 9 years captivity I wouldn't be surprised if it is lacking something.

As an update, the majestic started feeding on Flake food yesterday and is still very keen today. So all is good. Still a bit of aggresion. He's still a bit pale but is definitly settling in. He still has some juvenile markings so must still be pretty young. need all the nice fins to grow back but now that he is feeding well hopefully it will just take a bit of time and he will soon be truely majestic!

Ok, really getting wound up. he doesn't ssem to be scared of the tangs so they are actually biting him. Do tangs hate angels? Will this stop. Never seen anything like in 15 years of marines! Not sure whether to leave things or to take the tangs out which means stripping the tank down.???

Blacktip - Seriously stripping a tank down is a last resort been there and bought the shirt, Give it another week, fish can one day get along then the next have a massive scrap to sort out the pecking order it just takes time, and ime it can take up to two weeks for them to get along, If it persists any longer i would take out the angel and leave the tangs .. Its upset the harmony of the tank so maybe it should go before the already settled tangs.

Other than that i cant given any more advice but to wait. hope it goes well in the end
