i have a loyal Cup coral that I've had a few years that is very battle scarred from various corals, anemones, deep chills etc. Is it possible to frag it and cut out the dead bits? How will it grow? like a cup shape?
Cheers

Is it a tubinaria type of cup coral?

If so, then they recover very well. Many years ago (8?) I had one that didn't fair well due to a number of reasons.
Eventually All I had was a few 'patches' about the size of a five pence peiece, I cut them out and mounted them to a couple of fragging discs a while back and they are now a couple of inches in diameter each and shaped like a shallow dish.
Frags after a little growth, two in centre of photo..

Most recent photo (ignore the 'A' & 'B') you can see one on the sand just to the left of the gorgonian, the other is still in the frag tank...

Thanks Chris
Mine is a bigger polyp variety. Hopefully the same will be true. Think I'll give it a go.
