Hi Tom,

I bought a microscope today, fancy cutting some things up and having a look!
Do you know of any good websites that will tell me what I'm looking at? You often speak of interesting internal stuff / bugs and I'd like to look and see what you are talking about. I just need something do die!

Cheers

One of the best purchases I made when it comes to getting a closer look at things. I found it especially useful identifying a nuisance algae but also just fun to look at various things. Just scoop up a bit of sand and have a look at the life within!

But not just before you go to bed!!

Scary stuff.

I picked up a Nikon stereo microscope for a tenner some years ago and I love it.

For obvious reasons dont go killing things but take a look at acanthocephalans, nematodes and cestodes for internal parasites, external parasites are possible to view using a mucous scrape. Look out for various types of flukes and low level infestations of parasites such as cryptocaryon irritans and various nonlethal cilliates and dinoflagellates.
