right, my halide bulb will be due for replacement in a couple of months but i'm looking into it now as...well...i don't really have anything else to do :P

i currently have an "aquamedic oceanlight plus" unit - 150w with twin t5 actinics - on the aquamedic website it says the bulb is a 13000k, although i could of sworn it was a 14000k?

well anyway having been to jasons recently im thinking of going to something a little lower - and im thinking 12000k

just after a bit of advice where to get a GOOD quality bulb from - the name reeflux springs to mind?

also idea's on prices and best places to buy from

thanks,

luke

Personally I would go a step further and hit the 10 000K's
I suggest a change of plan... Let the wookie win

i had thought about that dave but im looking at moving the lights closer to the surface as they currently sit about 8 inches from the surface
so the plan is to move them down 4 inches tonight when i get home - then when they are due for a change go for the 12k's, then on the next change a year later go for 10k's...that way i get a feel for both and see which i prefer :P but jas had said about 10k's too...and also upgrading to 250's but i would need a new ballast etc so that's one for the future i think

Sorry Luke, I can't see a link between not going to 10 000Ks and moving closer to the surface?

I have 10's.

The difference from 10s to 12s is more spectrum that par, If I was you I would add 10's high up now and move them down afterwards, How high are your lights, how low do you want to go?

You Shouldn't really go any closer to the surface than 8 inches

ahh would i be right in saying that 10's are more of a "yellow" than say 14's?

and if that's the case i will probably just switch to 10's then...have you got any recent full tank shots on here that i could see?

thanks

I have problems with FTS's.

Have a look around the forum, the majority of tanks on here seem to be on 10's and are showing great growth and colour
