Hi,
The push fit I used has tight rubber seals and no metal, I got it from Jewsons.
In my old set up I used a pvc weld glue which took about 30 minutes to set hard and a further hour to cure, very similar consistancy to superglue, can't remember what it was called though, not that it helps but it was in a purple tube

I suggest a change of plan... Let the wookie win

regular plumbing glue is fine for use, and will be water tight in a few seconds. just make sure you have the pipe in the right position first as you wont get a second chance.
and imo its safe to use within a hour or 2 if you have to.

Solvent glue joints should not be used for 24 hours as they can leach chemicals into the water
