I'm hoping that a few forum members might have some experience with how the Betta Lifespace aquariums are put together, or more poignantly, come to bits.

I've just bought a complete and running set up that I need to disassemble and move. Emptying the tank and sump shouldn't present many problems but the bit I know nothing about is how to safely disconnect the plumbing to the sump. I imagine that where the bottom of the tank is drilled the connectors may need removing or is it better not to remove them but protect them in some way?

Any advise is appreciated.

Hi,

Starting from the top and working down.. the lid / top surround is made of plastic and just lifts off, it has clear acrylic braces which are attached so be advised about them.

Drain the tank completely. and if moving corals / live rock or fish, use this water to transport them.

With the tank empty, remove the cover from the top of the weir and have a look down. You will see 3 holes and 2 pipes coming up from them and one without a pipe. this one is the main feed to the sump and the pipe goes down from there.

Slowly and carefully twist and pull the 2 pipes until they come free. put them to one side.

Open the cabinet and in the left hand rear corner you will see 2 pipes coming straight down. Again, twist them slowly until they come free. The one with the tap is the main feed to the sump. Unscrew the flexible pipe, which is the return to the tank, and move it out of the way.

Now you can unscrew the collars on the pipe fittings from inside the cabinet and make a note of which is which. when these are removed you can lift the tank off (the white base on the tank is also plastic and is attached. I would not advise leaving the fittings in place as if it does fall on then you could crack the glass.

The cabinet also comes apart very easily and if it has not been done already, have a look at doing the front panel mod as I have done on mine. Have a look at my thread.

It makes access to the sump much easier as the wide front panel becomes removable.

Dont forget also that the top of the cabinet has to come off to remove the sump! so make sure the sump is empty as its heavy enough on its own!!

Hope this helps and good luck!

Pete
