Hi guy's,

Well the other night i was bored stiff so thought i would have a quick look around on the internet at some reef eye candy.Doing the usual troll through glass box.com and reef builders,i yet again ended up looking at stunning pics of the candy bass and thought to myself how nice it would be just to see one in real life one day. This is a very rare fish that normaly ends up being shipped over to japan etc where they sell for seriouse money or end up on online sites such as live aquaria's "divers den" in the usa.For a fish nerd like me this is the holy grail of reef fish!
Anyway, about a week ago i was in taunton aquarium center having a look around out the back and after a few trips up and down the system i noticed a small mesh pot floating in the quarantine system.I slowly tipped it to one side an what sticks its head up and gawps at me? CANDY BASS!
Jesus! I couldnt believe it! I never thought i would ever see one of these!
So i left the shop thinking can i justify buying this fish? A week later and the answer was "sod it,ive worked my arse off since being laid off last year, why not"!

Just check this little guy out!

First off in the drip bucket.......

You dont let fish like this loose in a shop system and i kept him in his pot for the trip home to reduce stress.

I wouldnt normaly get this close with the camera but this little guy couldnt care less! He was feeding in the bucket!

And here is the final shot as he makes his way out into his new home....

Fantastic find dave.

I was looking at some images of a 'pair' the other day that Sanjay Joshi has....this fish realy is one of the real gems in this hobby.

I have a nice blacked out head on shot. I'll ask Sanjay if he minds me posting it up.

Stunning!

A pair would be awesome, can they be sexed so you can find a mate?
I suggest a change of plan... Let the wookie win

Check out www.Reefpark.net if you have a minute

I dont think they are sexable and putting two same sex fish together could prove fatal! The chances of me getting another one are around zero.Very rare indeed! Plus the fact i couldnt afford another!
One thing i have noticed is a redish area behind the dorsal fin.You can see it in the last pic and i wonder if that could be a possible way of sexiing them.........

Yeh he's a little shy as expected.I never expected to see him that much but when he does come out and about its worth it! Im sure he will settle in well in a week or two.The only fish he seems nervous of is the regal angel, but then the regal is 4.5 inches and he is less than 2 inches!
