It was time to zap some aips in the tank today, so I shut off all the flow and when looking down on top the tank thought the efflo's were looking rather splendid so grabbed a couple of shots...

Thanks for the compliments guys, but I can't take all the credit, some of it must go to the terrible twins for helping get my water sorted.

Dave, not really. I did get a bottle and add a bit every now and then, but looking at my system overall, bearing in mind it has a remote sump, what we kind of worked out is that I'm not getting anywhere near enough turnover between tank and sump so my tank has/had a higher nutrient loading than in the sump. Frags in my frag tank in the sump were polyping and had better colors than in the display tank, presumably because the water in the sump had lower nutrients.

I've made a few changes in the sump to recirculate the water around and around the sump system which enables the skimmer and cheato bed to see more of the water, this made a big difference, I've never had so much cheato. I've also hung my V2 1000 on the end of the display tank and run that for about 18 hours a day, this pulled out a lot of really mucky gunk over the first few days and continues to do so. I think this is what has made the biggest difference.

I need to change the pipework between tank and sump which means cutting the lounge floor (concrete) again.

Yeah that makes sense Chris.I have better colour now.I was running an eheim 3000 compact return, now i run a 5000 compact and that works out at about 16 times turnover per hour. That with a filter sock and a skimmer rated at 240 gallons on a 70ish gallon system really helped things.Getting the detritus out of a system is a real key factor for me.Im changing my sump soon to have a huge dsb and pass 100% of the water through filter socks that will be changed every day or two.One down side for me though has been that i cant keep trachy's anymore. The system is to clean and too high flow for them sadly.I suppose we cant keep it all so ive replaced them with a cracking Acropora.Desalwii table. :)

Would love to see a full tank shot when you get a chance!
