I have the 'big' one. It's big, ugly, not quiet and shifts a lot of water. Put it behind some of your rock to hide it and it'll do a fine job. Noise is subjective. I have no sump under my tank hence none of the noise associated with that and so my tank is probably quieter than many, so anything which makes a noise stands out more. As a result, I usually just run mine during the day when we're at work but it's still well worth it.

hi chris
is it possible to mount this above the tank in the hood and use 22mm pipe down into the tank for flow, or put it low down in the tank at the back behind rock and use 22mm pipe again to direct flow up as it does look a big unit

No, it needs to be below the water line.

Yes, but it comes with directional outlets which will probably be fine. I'm not sure what the outlet size is tho, 22mm sounds a bit small.

Just looked at mine through the side of the tank and i'd say the outlets must be at least 70mm!

Well I set mine up today and i must say i'm impressed with the flow it provides
As far as noise goes it does have a high pitched whine but not really noticeable above the noise of everything else

I have mine at the back of the tank behind the rockwork about 4" above the sand, i find the flow from it very good.
But i do also have 4 nano streams in there aswell, tanks 36"L x 36"W x 24"D.
