I turned off the flow to mount a coral and this seemed to draw all the smaller fish out, so using some cling film to water proof the lense on my point-and-shoot I took a few snaps. They're not the sharpest, but it was just quick.

The wrasse at the top of the following two photos is the same wrasse, it changes color really quick, in the less than the length of the tank as you watch it!

Thanks guys.

The sailfin is nice, as are the two large regal tangs, but unfortunately their stay will soon be up. They're all getting a little big now, they'll be off to blue reef in the next few weeks if I can catch them. We'll miss them, but the tank is just too small for them now. Seeing two six inch regal tangs racing around the tank in and out of the acros is scary!

Flow, hmmm, four 1500 seios + a tunze nano + part time Polario 2200 and I still get dead spots! I'm considering a pair of MP40, tho I haven't worked out how to pay for them yet :(

There are five bartletts, four males and one female and they all get along swimmingly.

For sure the tank is not without it's issues, patches of valonia, dead spots, aiptasia & nutrient levels. A couple of large milli's just weren't getting on, so they've been moved out, my formosa (ex-Tim) has barely grown, whilst the stag next to it is like a weed; another green milli was plagued with valonia which I'm picking out bit by bit but will probably loose half of it and I recently had to take one of my efflo's down to Lindsay to sort after I started getting a little tip recesion probably due to detritus burn or something. Sump/tank turnover is a major issue which is affecting the water quality. For the last couple of months I've been running my spare V2 1000 skimmer on the end of the tank for 18 hours a day which has helped, but I really need to improve the turnover so that the sump can deal with it better.

To that end I acquired a differnt return pump last week, a "Tunze Master Electric Recirculation Pump 1073.090", basically a rebadged Sicce 9000e which should allow me to improve the flow from around 1300 lph to over 5000 lph, hopefully nearer 6500 lph if my returns will handle it. To handle this flow, I need to fit upsize the return and add an additional drain, so I spent yesterday playing with 9" diamond disc cutter to do this..

.. now I can get three 40mm pipes in and the wife still loves me :( I've tried several differing pumps and the distance just kills them. This pump is a 'pressure' pump designed for pumping over a distance. At zero head it is something like 8300lph drawing 120watts, pretty good. You can get the non-tunze version for under £150 which is a bargain for a pump with these specs.

I'm going to be reworking the sump too, I'll start a thread on that nearer the time.

Chris

PS Shinjuku Incident, anyone seen that? Just watched it this evening, excellent film if you like asian cinema.

Your Mrs must be VERY understanding, if I remember rightly its less than a year since you took a disc cutter to your floor last time

No, it was just a large frag. The photos below are about five or six months apart, the formosa is in the centre next to the green stag. As you can see, it's barely grown. Any new growth it puts on is piddly little bits which really don't do well at all. But most stuff does really well , like the pocillipora which you see in the top pic at the front of the tank just to the left of the turbinaria and then back beside the duncans in the bottom pic.

Stunning M8, despite what you say about growth, it looks pretty good to me.

I'm not sure I would get away with the trench cutting in our house. not to mention the fact that I have underfloor heating which would cause a few problems.

Not sure if this counts as underfloor heating or not :ponder:

If you own a cat, you will soon find out. Ours can align himself perfectly with our underfloor pipes when they are on.
