This year i planned to rear some baby cuttlefish.I was planning to have a go from June onwards as collecting live mysis wouldnt be a problem at that time of year.Anyway i had the chance to buy some 2 day olds from TMC so thought i would have a punt and see how things went.I got five only as i wasnt that sure i would be able to feed or house any more.So far i have them in a small breeding trap in my reef tank. One refused to eat and died and ive lost another into the main tank.I think my regal angel had him as when i turned around with the net to catch him he was gone and the regal was there
The remaining three are looking really strong and have started to feed aggressively. To be honest im not sure what i will do if i manage to raise these.I will probably keep one and sell any i have left. Its more a bit of fun than anything else and if it works out i will do a good sized batch in the summer.
I have collected some live mysis from my usual spot in the exe estuary and also some amphipods both of which they take. They will even take mysis the same length as they are!
Anyway here are a few videos of the trio in action......
