slight !! error was while doing the new set up, mixed the salt in the tank, filled the sump, connected up the pump and pipes then nipped out to get a ball valve to balance the flow as return was too fast. the new salt water syphoned back through the pump, overflowed the sump and made a rather big wet area on the floor

guys i was soo lucky - it nearly got worse as i put newspaper down and the bloody picture ink came off on the carpet ! luckily i had about an hour before Mandy got home so i got the water sponged up, towel dried the carpet best i could and what saved me (she said) was the sheer look of OMFG on my face when she walked through the door . I really thought I was in for it and I think that made her laugh, thinking I'd been sh***ing it all afternoon (I had too!!)
Even now i think a power cut may just overflow the sump a little bit so I'm going to need to drill a sump overflow hole and pipe it through the wall or an air brick or something
