Hi,

I seriously considering installing a generator in my workshop, to power the house when we have a power outage.
I'm wondering if anyone here can wire an auto changeover switch into my mains, between the meter and the main distribution box.
I can get the right box for the job, and could possibly do it myself, but would prefer a qualified guy to do it.
I'm not looking for a freebie.

Let me know.

Tony.

You may need to get advice on that as I'm not sure if the changeover switching gear falls into the Part P Regulations which means that the install may have to be signed off.

Would agree with Tony. You'll need to get it done professionally as its under Part P.
How many times have you been off supply?
Is it worth the outlay if its only once a year

I'm not off very often but when I am, I lose everything including our water supply, heating, cooking and of course Reeftank.
I have some fairly uncommon reasons for trying to maintain a constant supply as well.

the outlay isnt that great TBH, and would easily be outweighed by my reef stock losses alone.

I do take on your advice though and will contact an electrical contractor when the time comes.

Thanks all.
