Have mine in the garage , yea temp swings are a problem
had to build a insulated wall in the winter to keep temp up
and running cooling fans and extractor fan in exterior wall in summer
think ill add chiller this year
Definatly worth doing in my opion thou , loads of room to play around and add home made reactors etc

As be mentioned, my sump is in the garage. my garage is un-insulated so I built an insulated cupboard around it. I don't have a problem with temp swings , on fact it helps it stay cooler in the summer and am able to run three 400 watt halides without a chiller. I had to fit an extractor fan in the top venting to the outside to prevent condensation in the garage I'm winter.

that's what i was thinking a chiller ,and when you say a insulated wall . Do you mean round the sides of the tank

I put polystyrene between the tanks and the wall and on the cupboard sides and top and inside the doors. 50 mm at least

Built a false insulated wall just behind sump to contain heat as was loosing heat through garage door

As already mentioned at least 2" of insulation, I used the celotex type insulation, and good ventilation to prevent condensation and mould. Make sure you have a well supported and strong floor as all the water in the sump, storage containers etc will quickly add up!!!!

Mine is in the garage, not insulated and so is the main tank, the room on the other side is insulated just not the tank or sump.
Heaters are on 24/7 to keep the temp stable. Need to get it insulated though.

Thanks Kev & Slappy for your replys ,i think it's going to be a chiller, and shed well insulated and vented.
And concrete floor, then see how it go's .
