carbon recycling??

can carbon be dried out / washed / boiled / pressure washed / zapped with air line / whatever, and reused?? As i understand it there are no magical properties - just tiny bits in the water getting stuck in the little holes in it. Or does it do good sausages on the bbq :)
KEEP A FEW TRUE STARFISH, SAVE THEM FROM BEING DRIED OUT FOR TOURISTS
