Hi guys,
Just a quick update.
I got sacked from my prior job - i think illegally, but i wanted to leave anyway so i dont really care- two weeks ago as a result of a huge kick off i had about the lies, deceit, empty promises, attitude and general ignorance of my boss. He got told as it is, and didnt like it much. He took the pee out of me wage wise, and continued to do so despite a verbal arrangement made in my interview. Weekends off were compulsory and taken out of holidays (essentially thats 50% of my holidays taken off me and wasted) and I booked a holiday months ago that he then proceeded to deny all knowlege of. I rattled the cage, and he couldnt deal with me, my (very reasonable) demands as an employee. so because i didnt have a contract (better for me in this company- even though it does leave me open to easier dismissal- thats why i didnt push the issue) Also, the extent of my uniform was a single company polo shirt. In winter it was freezing cold and we were not issued with further clothes or fleeces/ jumpers! There was chronic understaffing, politics made our lives incredibly stressful and awkward. I hated it!
Its a real shame, I was team leader of what was a potentially very very exceptional team of aquarists. I wont take s*** off anyone though. People are bullied into keeping their mouths shut (part of that ploy was sacking me) and are scared they wont get another job. Its a sad situation. And it will continue within that company because of the scarcity of good aquatic jobs! at least ive got myself out!
Anyway bye gons being as they are, I emailed another company the day of sacking i have worked for previously to see if they had any positions going. I really enjoyed my last job there. It was a lovely relaxed but incredibly busy atmosphere with efficient workers, an outstanding aquatics team, and understanding bosses. I work with the guy that taught me fish since i was about five, The aquatic systems are incredibly efficient, there is a massive amount of pride in all aspects of the company which is important to me. Low and behold, they did. So i took my disputed holiday (a week in Wales, was nice but caravan was skanky - dont go to presthaven sands unless its a discounted hol- and started work the next monday for this company. Its lived up to expectations and im currently better paid, far far far less stressed, better hours, holidays are reasonable, full uniform is on order, I cant complain TBH !!!!!
Anyhoos, the POND
Its dug, concreted, rebar and block arrived today and its due for starting building tomorrow. I plan to get half the block in place then add a second thinner layer of concrete to the base to slope to the drains
more to follow on that one however!!!
As for the rest of my time, well thats spent atm working out how to wangle a marine tank past my mum, and working out plans for the garden once the pond is complete. Im also getting back into my FW fish a bit more, just updating myself and keeping well up with marine stuff.
Ive got a new interest too. Nature in my garden. Bumblebee moths (narrow margin) and various finches from gold to chaff and a great spotted woodpecker have impressed me this week. Ive got plans to install various devices to attract more!!!!!! except herons and otters of course!!!!
Hope you are all well peeps!

Good luck with the new job. Just out of interest, what do your current and previous company 'do'?
