I've taken two photos of my tank, six months apart, and have done a kind of transition thing with them to see the changes over this time period....

Firstly, you need two photos that show the start and end views, ie six months ago and today. You then need to adjust the two photos so that when overlaid ontop of each other they are the same size and things which havent moved eg rock work, weirs, pumps are as close as possible to each other in both photos.

Then you can use a tool like Windows Movie Maker to create the actual movie. I used a diffent tool but since windows movie maker comes free with most versions of windows I'll talk you thru that one - its easy.

1) Open windows movie maker and import your new images.
2) Drag your 'old' image onto the video timeline area at the bottom
3) Stretch the righthandside of the image to something like 15 seconds,
4) Drag your 'new' image onto the video timeline so that it is positioned to appear after the first one
5) Stretch the second image to the 30 second marker
6) Now click and hold the second image and drag it back over the first image to something like the 5 second marker. This will create a fade transition between the two photos for the overlapping timer period.

Thats it, you can now export your movie or add titles etc as you desire.

The trick is getting two similar photos, they don't have to be precise since a lot of detail gets lost in the transition, but the closer the better. Also try to get the brightness and coloration of both photos as close as you can, unless you are trying to emphasise shifts in these areas.

Good luck and lets see your results.
