I'm starting to get low on Rowaphos and will need to buy some new stuff soon.
I see that Ultiphos is much cheaper, but is it as good?
Which is best in a reactor, Ultiphos or Ultiphos P?
Opinions please guys.
Tony.

Hi Tony,
I have used Ultiphos in the past, but IMO it is nowhere as good as Rowaphos, as the saying goes "you get what you pay for", and for me Rowaphos is the best.

Hi Tony, you need the ultiphos P for using in a reactor, I've used it for ages and find it fluidises much better than rowa.
It normally lasts me 4 - 6 weeks before needing changing, and a litre tub will last me about 3 months

Had a long chat with the supplier of Ultiphos and he sent me down the new stuff. Its been on their shelves for about 6 months and the claim is its far superior than their own stuff and certainly better than Rowa.
Interestingly its the same stuff SWW use in their treatment work to remove Arsenic!!
We're one of the highest users down here due pressumably to the mine workings.
The Phosphate removal is a side issue. The point is, if anyone knows anyone who works in the SWW water treatment side then they should be able to help.Apparently they use it by the sack load!!!.
I think Uda's new version is Ultiphos R.

Hi Martin, do you know under what chemical name SWW buy it in, as I do have a contact but when I asked about GFO they said they don't use it

I did write it down at work but have a feeling my secretary "tidied up"!!!
The shop guy did say its mostly manafactured in Germany as I believe they use it in their water utilities. Presumably thats how Rowaphos came about. In this country Scotland and Cornwall are the big users. I understand thats how Ultiphos came about as its distributed through Scotland. I wont think they would be over keen to publicise the fact considering the profits made, even in the cheaper stuff.
He did seem genuine though when he said their latest product is specifically designed for reactors and is more absorbent than Rowa. Its all down to the heating times when producing the stuff, apparently. It could all be nonsense of course and the chap was misinformed but as I say he did seem genuine. I know several guys on the water re-hab side but no one in the actual treatment plants so its a bit tricky trying to get hold of their stuff to try it out
I've tried both, rowa and Ulti R and imo there didnt seem to be any startling differences....but could well be that it may take several months of continious use before an accurate assesment could be made
