got on a chair to look at my tank from above just a second ago and thought of this....

Having been to the Maldives in February (not to brag :( ), i remember looking down into the water from the jetty when i arrived, and being amazing at how clear the water is, naturally, but obviously it was still blue/green/turqoise...and wondered about achieving this effect at home

now i know the easy way would be putting a filter/tint on the cover glass of my halide unit...but would this not block out beneficial parts of the light spectrum?

i then thought, well, seawater is MAINLY that colour due to the sky above? although i know seawater does have a blue tinge on it's own...how about adding a very slight, heat resistant tint to the bulb reflector...?

i am not necessarily looking to achieve this colouration i just wondered if it could be done...would look alot more natural IMO...and i'm not on about the same sort of colour you get with say a 20k bulb or actinic T5's that look un-naturally blue

will be interesting to see people thoughts on this
anyone want coral safe, aiptasia eating nudibranc's (berghia) from one of the UK's only breeders? PM me for details

Couple of things....

Water is only really blue when viewing thru larger volumes compare a glass of water with a bucket full. Then compare a bucket of your tank water with a bucket of fresh water (plain or salted), odds are your tank water won't be blue like the fresh will be due to the nutrients etc. If you want a bluer look either add more atomic or change the spectrum of your other lamps.
