you should test the tds comming out of the ro unit. this will tell you one of the filters will need chaging. usually change the pre-filters first and if this isnt enough then change the resin.

sorry ben let me re-phrase my question.i went to change my resin today and the resin i have in the container has changed colour.when i first had it was very golden/copper in colour and very shiny, today when i opened it the shine was nowhere near as prominent as it was and the resin colour itself was lighter as if it had faded.
should've posted this info first sorry

my guess is that unless its in a sealed container then yeh it could have a shelf life. it could probably absorb moisture from the air which may shorten its life.
however, this is just speculation
