Hi there, thought I'd come in and say hello in here!
I'm new to marine fish and I'm hoping to get a tank set up shortly. The tank I have in mind is a Fluval Vicenza 180. Its a hand me down tank, a friend of mine has used it successfully as a marine tank and now they have upgraded they've let me have it.
As mentioned I'm new to marine fish, I've had tropical fish up until recently. My friend has offered much advise and is going to continue to let me pick her brains, but I'd appreciate any opinions ideas etc
One question I have off the bat, I would like this tank to be a reef set up (as it was originally) What would be the best setup course? LR/ live sand? and when should it be added? secondly I'm looking at getting an RO unit, what suggestions advise do you have?
Thanks very much in advance
Crash!

welcome to the site.
there are many ways to set up a reef tank but live rock and skimmer is my fav. live sand isnt needed as dead sand will become live soon enough anyway.
as for an RO unit then have a looks at this site http://www.osmotics.co.uk/ . try and get one with a DI unit on it and you will need a TDS meter to check the quality of the RO water after the unit has been in use for a while.
the main thing is not to rush anything and keep asking questions.
cheers

Thanks for the info, after some research (random key strokes in google) I stumbled on the "Berlin method) which is what i guess you meant with the LR.
When the tank arrives ill have a mooch through whats with it and see what spares I've got lying around. I found an RO unit on ebay aswell only downside it doesnt have a DI unit with it. If I recall correctly it was about 34£, would it be worth getting one and putting a DI unit aswell? or try and get a 4stage one instead?
I'm full of questions so hopefully i wont start to annoy people ><
Thanks in advance

Welcome to IR
Is the ro unit on ebay new? if not you may need new filters, in which case you would be better off with a new 4 stage unit.
But yes you can add a DI to an existing 3 stage
Keep asking those questions, we were all new once lol

i started a new thread about the RO unit, it claims to be new, theres a 4 stage one for about 44£
the idea of carrying 35g of RO water doesn't appeal to me >< (cant drive sadly)
