Has anyone or does anyone know if it would be ok to fit halogen downlights either side of a 150w halide inside the pendent ?.
Im thinking of fitting a couple of 230v fittings and then trying a few 35w halogen blue bulbs or a couple of blue led bulbs.

Can't see any reason why not. You can always use the GU10 blue led's instead of halogen.

Sounds like a great idea and certainly like the sound of the price. How have you attached them? I assume you have a lid on your tank.

Hi Ken
I havent done it yet but I have a single 150w halide pendant and Im useing an external control box so the only thing in the pendant is the halide bulb, holder and reflector.
Im going to drill a hole in each of the plates that sit either side of the reflector and fit a downlight in each.
The downlights are desingned to fit in the holes useing clips and cover the hole completely.
this should give a nice even spread of blue light and it should look very neat and tidy.
Iv also ordered some heat proof mains cable as it does get hot in there.
The tank has cover glass and the pendant is suspended above.
Once Iv done it I will post some pictures.
Total cost is still well under £15 including postage for all parts.

Im happy with the way they look in the halide but the beam is far too narrow.
they are 2w with 25 led's and a 20 degree spotlight beam.
Im going to see if I can find some with a wider beam otherwise I will have to find another way.
One thing I must say to anyone thinking of doing this...There isnt enough room in the halide for the ceramic bulb fittings
while thats not a problem with 2w led's I wouldnt run halogens without the bulb holders due to the heat they produce.

Iv just ordered a Prismatic Diffuser...Ohh ere sounds posh
Its just a piece of opaque plastic with ridges on it the will soften and spread the light.
If it works I will post more pictures. The diffuser cost me £5 including postage so the build is still cheap.

As you can see from the photo the light is now totaly diffused and the whole tank is bathed in blue light.
Ignore the reflections from the candles
