Hi all
Have a twin 150w halide fitting running 30k twin end lamps. Never seen 30k but they are for definite. Need to change bulbs now but want to go to 14k or 20k. Which bulb to have though?. The 30k were in the unit when I got it and seem very blue and not that good for my tank I feel even though it mainly soft corals as they seem to have been doing better on the old t5s
Thanks

Also what make of lamp is good as well please

I would go for something like 12 or 14k. Brandwise, coralvue is all I've ever used.

As chris has said above,or if you have blues on the tank you could try 10k,the 30k you have is probably what a different manufacturer would rate as a 20k.

Hi all
Thanks for the replies. They are iaquatics lamps and they do 30k still so I think 14k will be my best bet.

I have just changed my RX7 150 lamps for BLV 14k and the difference is amazing. I have used Arcadia,Coralvue and Iquatics but the BLV has shown the best growth by far of any lamp I have used. They will look quite yellow though after your 30k,s so unless you are supplementing with actinics then you may want to consider 20k,s lamps instead. Be wary the BLV are a lot brighter than the Iquatic lamps so you will need to acclimatise the coral to the extra light for a couple of weeks.

I recently switched to Aqualine 10000 bulbs and am very happy with them. I've seen much improvement in both colour and growth, and the spectrum is actually 13k as the name doesn't suggest, so no yellowing to my eyes albeit supplemented with 120 Blue 5050 SMD's. YMMV however, once you're dealing with high quality bulbs the consensus seems to be very subjective!
