I'm sure this will look great when it's grown out but at the moment, well it's very marmite .........................................

How do your fish manage for territory for sleeping/ settling down at night Trev?

This i like and is how i would set up a reef tank, looks like the corals have settled and growing already Trev?,corals seem to like growing on and around plastic so as they grow this should look very impressive.
A tank with a difference, looking froward to further updates.

Very interesting Trev, I think this should have it's own thread so we can watch it progress.
Without live rock what are you using for filtration?

Fish are fine Andrew, not heard them complain yet :sign_lol:

Even my Blue Assessor is out and about quite happily.
He was in the tank before and was only seen on rare occasions.

I did put a pic of the tank "before" on my tank thread (empty with a few fish and a clam in it).

I was going to keep quiet until it grows out a bit and hides most of the pipework.

Filtration is by means of Tony Karnivors rather well made Gyractor running Bio pellets and a Chaeto bed (which isn't having to do much).
Cryptic filtration will be happening within the pipework.

Rock is so over-rated, especially when it's covered in coral and coraline algae, and unable to export neutrients because there is no flow through it!
And when it is all clogged up with coral and algae, your rock will start to leach back lots of nasty nitrates and phosphates!!!

New ideas will always attract the sceptics ;)

Looking good Trev, give it a few months to colour up and the frags to grow. There's plenty of swimming room for the fish,no dead spots and no flow issues.

A couple of years down the line you won't need to change the expensive live rock as most people do!!:good:

You could say that to leave out rock means you now have to look to process nutrients as they happen, rocks good at aiding this process until corals block out flow etc, then it can and often does become a problem with removing the rock the only answerer.
Pipe will never replace rock but for the more experienced reefer it may well appeal as a different challenge,ie you the water and the corals.
