If we buy farmed corals from farmers who grow them on the islands near the reef from where the parent coral supplied the frags to grow the maricultured corals there will be far more incentive to protect the reefs corals from where the frags were taken,for me the locals on the islands benefit from not just the money that comes in from growing and selling corals but from the added incentive to look after their local reef to enable them to carry on growing corals in future years.If they had to compete with other people growing their native corals on a larger scale elsewhere they may see demand for their grown corals drop off and where would that leave the reef?.
That said i read the article quickly while working so if ive got my facts wrong then forget the above lol.
