Hi i have an acro that is meant to have blue tips instead they are yellow colour
Im thinking maybe i have too much light above it 400w 10k , In my last tank it had blue tips under 250w 10k.
Nitrate is 2ppm
Phos 0


Any ideas?

Have you tried moving it to a lower light position?

Ultimately, is it healthy and growing?

SPS are supremely adaptable animals to be honest with change of pigmentation being just one of those adaptions. Personnaly, i wouldnt worry as long as the coral is healthy and still growing. what we consider the 'right' colour for the coral, may be just one of its genetically available colour arsenal with regards to protective pigments....


With regards to the yellow tips, I'd hazard a guess that this is the coral changing colour to reflect surplus or unwanted light in the upper 650nm+ or IR waveband. iirc this reduces radiated heat buildup within the delicate tissue at the tips.

Similar yellow and red pigments are found in shallow water Pistellata, A.humilus, and some A.millipora's.

A very common coral to find bright yellow tips is A.nana when kept in shallow water under lower K / high PAR lamps.
