Hi all,

I'm in the process of assembling a temporary system to house my stock while I get the 8 footer out of the lounge.

As I need to reuse all of the pipes / bends etc for the new tank do you think silicone will be ok to use for the joints on the temporary system?

Cheers

Kev,

Would think that the problem with using silicone on VDL would be if any of the pressurized (On a pump) pipework got blocked, that a pressure build up would probably just blow the silicone joints. For overflow pipework i wouldn't think that this would be an issue as the hydrostatic head is the same whether blocked or not and as long as the joints are tight with a bit of silicone as a seal - bit like Marley push fit plumbing.

For temporary jobs I often just wrap a bit of insulation tape around the pipe and twist it into the fitting, holds like a goodun for ages, years even!

You can separate even glued joints, a bit of patience and a heat gun.

Thanks guy's

It is only on overflow pipework so no pressure involved.

I like the tape idea chris, that will save a lot of time waiting for the silicone to set smile.gif
